Benefits of Sheep Milk

We’re very happy to announce that we are producing sheep milk and our order book is now open to dairies looking to create sheep’s cheese from our farm on Dartmoor.

It probably comes as no surprise that high quality is the natural outcome when you have happy animals! So, we provide our flocks with nourishing pastures, a calm and leisurely way of life and now a shiny new milking parlour. We’re delighted with the flavoursome results.

Sheep milk is rich in essential nutrients. It has higher levels of vitamins, minerals and protein than cow’s milk and contains beneficial vitamins for maintaining strong bones and a healthy immune system, including increased calcium and vitamin D, which is one we tend to lack up here in the northern hemisphere.

Even more benefits of sheep milk…

As well as improved energy levels, some report that it may be beneficial to those with skin conditions like eczema and, as the lactose content in sheep’s milk is lower than cow’s milk, it is easier to digest for those with lactose intolerance or sensitivity.

Rich and sweet, our unpasteurised sheep’s milk is creamier than cow’s milk but has the same great taste (we think it tastes better!) and of course our cows have contributed to this success as their home produced dung is used to fertilise our fields, ensuring all grazers are content! Our milk certainly makes very tasty cheese.

Well-known cheeses made from sheep milk include Roquefort from France and Manchego from Spain, Halloumi from Cyprus & Feta from Greece. The UK’s Dartmoor Sheep Dairy cheese will be distinctive and delicious… watch this space.

We are providing West Country cheesemakers with our milk, but have exciting plans to open our own dairy in the future. Our sheep milk can be ordered by dairies to create their own cheeses – we’re really looking forward to tasting what they make!
